Have you come across someone who complains that they have too much storage space? We haven’t!
One of the most common problems in our homes is the lack of storage space. We find ourselves moving from one area to another in search of more space. This is true, no matter how organized you try to be.
For a space to appear tidy and well organized, one needs to use cabinets, closets, and other custom-made storage options. However, not all of us are blessed with strategic, built-in cabinetry and large closets. For those who move regularly, it makes no sense to invest in these efficiencies. So what do you do? Here are some of the ways to get more space out of your home:
Organize Clothing Under The Bed
One of the best storage options that people overlook is the bed. We recommend thinking carefully whenever you are shopping for a new mattress before deciding which bed is best for you.
Always go for a bed with built-in storage, especially if you’re working with small bedrooms. Beds can be easy replacements for dressers. You can still create more storage space under your bed by raising your bed with a bed raiser or a new frame.
You can also store clothes under your bed using items like boxes, suitcases, wicker woven baskets, or old bookshelves with wheels.
Use The Space Above Your Cabinets
Most people have discarded the idea of using the space between the top of the cabinets and the ceiling. However, the area above your cabinets can be capitalized as extra storage space. You can store items you seldom use above your cabinet.
You can utilize the space and still make it neat by using wire baskets or matching with your color theme. This will allow you to create extra storage space in your home and still look stylish.
Turn Doors Into Storage Spaces
Most rooms have a door; hence, you can install cabinets over doors in any room and use it as extra storage space. This is especially efficient in your bathroom, laundry room, and bedroom.
You can use the space above the door to keep the essential things within reach and neatly pack away seasonal items. Doing this will also help you keep your countertops, floors, and dressers’ top free of clutter and keep your space well-organized. Installing a cabinet above your door is easy, and it is equally easy to remove.
Install A Hidden Desk
If your house space is limited and you don’t have space for an office or a desk, then the struggle of keeping your files, computer, desk supplies, and other items organized is real. Consider installing a closed desk in a piece of furniture in your home to create more space where you can hide work documents when you are done working.
Utilize Your Coffee Table
Your coffee table or side table can sometimes offer the perfect solution to store smaller items in your living room and create more storage space for more important things. A coffee table can be perfect for stashing away children’s toys, notebooks, and board games. A coffee table can still be the focal point of your living room and still offer extra storage space.
Exterior Storage Options
When we think about storage capacity that exists outside of the interior of the home, the first few things that come to mind are the garage, attic, and storage shed. Depending on what it is you need to store, any one of these options would be suitable for storage. The attic is often used to store items that may need to be accessed yearly, like holiday decor, or old family heirlooms. If you are not currently parking your vehicle in the garage, this can be a great place to temporarily store items that you still need to access, or that you may need to temporarily store. Outside of the attic and garage, you can utilize a storage shed to store bins and yard tools. Sheds come in many sizes, and can even be customized for your space. There are sites like Amazon that sell generic sheds, but if you want something custom, or something that is made from steel, consider purchasing from some premium steel shed suppliers, or custom steel shed builders.
Storage Units
If you need to store your belongings off of the property, you can consider renting a storage unit. Storage units can be rented.
