Pipe Relining: How Does It Work?

Relining pipes is a process which rebuilds the pipelines without the unnecessary costs of digging and repairing current pipelines. Your piping system is actually one of your home’s worst places. However, even though the damage to your pipes seems severe, there is a simpler way out.

The pipe relining helps by fixing pipes from within with a special resin that cures over time to form a new, solid (in some cases much stronger) pipe. The resin is essential in curing the pipes. In a damaged pipe, a felt tube, saturated by resin, made from a suitable material is inserted (usually polyester or fibreglass) for the impregnation of resin. Then the resin hardens and forms a new tube inside the damaged tube.

Pipe relining is known to be a trenchless system because this operation requires only limited digitalisation. This makes it more cost-effective and less costly than conventional pipe repairs “dig and patch.”

Pipe Relining Procedure

The stages of relining are the following:

  1. First, the pipes will be inspected and checked to verify the extent of the problem. This is typically accomplished with closed-circuit cameras. But now, a technology called Forced Electron Leak Location (FELL) is used to analyse damages more thoroughly in order to find better solutions.
  2. This next step is to clean the damaged pipes. Then it is periodically washed, and hard or large obstructions are removed. Robot cutters are usually used. Finally, a powerful pressurised water jet is used to complete the cleaning and to provide a smooth surface for the resin to be set on the pipe walls.
  3. A final inspection is carried out to ensure that the pipes are prepared to be relined, usually utilising closed-circuit cameras.
  4. The length of the tubes and the extent of the damage now determine the length of the lining.
  5. The pipe is filled with epoxy resin after deciding the length of the container. It ensures the length of the pipes is loaded with the resin that is then turned into a new pipe. Simpler and broader parts of the pipe are easier to handle than complicated joints and T parts in this stage.
  6. The curing process is followed, and this is the longest step in the cycle. This phase can be done by the furnace treatment manually, but hot water is typically used to speed up the cycle. Eventually, UV radiation is used for the maximum toughness of the treated linings.
  7. Before the procedure is completed, all joints and inspection pits are removed. This method requires robotic cutters to extract joints, although inspection pits can be handled with grinders or cutters on any surface point.
  8. Eventually, the reinstallation process is completed. Inspections have to be carried out. So ensure that your pipe works well only after the final tests have been completed by the pipe relining service you employ.

Pipe relining is a great alternative with what would cost you dearly both in terms of money and energy, for weeks, or even months of laborious and intrusive repair work. Ensure your pipe recirculation service – follow the steps as described.
